walking the labyrinth

Lessons of the labyrinth

The idea that life is a journey is often seen as a straight line: we’re born, we live, we die. Even with all the detours, this linear view of life fills us with anxiety as we try to dodge the finish line. But what if we look at our life journey as a circle that follows a cycle … just as the moon cycles around the earth, and the earth cycles around the sun? The more closely we align our beliefs and actions with the cycles of nature, the more in tune our body, mind, and spirit will be with the natural world and with each other. The path of the labyrinth welcomes you to experience the trust in the cycle.

a Labyrinth is not a maze ...

Unlike a maze, the choices to make in a labyrinth are to enter and to trust.

indoor labyrinths

The most well known indoor labyrinth is at the Chartres Cathedral in France, built in the early 13th century. Since the labyrinth was "rediscovered" in the 1990s, a modern day labyrinth movement has emerged. In the US and around the world, labyrinths can be found in churches and healing centers. Most labyrinths are built outdoors, but some can be found indoors, painted onto floors.
A portable labyrinth made of canvas is an alternative to the painted version. They are a range of sizes and patterns, but the benefit is that they can be transported to wherever there are labyrinth walkers with an open space.
